to do - inflight meal travel tricks
I have a few travel tricks up my sleeve whenever I am going on holidays!
Finding ways around the liquid security measures at the airport and trying creative ways to sneek in some greens are my thing!
Here are some tips on how I you can have a healthy inflight meal.
Eat your water.
Once up in the sky you have to stay hydrated! So make yourself a delicious foodpack filled with vegetables and fruits that have e a high water content!
It's less heavy than carrying around water bottles, it's less expensive than buying water bottles after the security check, it's more filling than water, it has more taste and you sneak in some extra vitamins!
Think Fingerfood
When making yourself a little snack / lunch / dinner pack make something that you can easily eat with your two hands and that does't require a lot of space. Don't use a bunch of diffrent containers with quinoa, beans, hummus, dips, carrots, celery stalks,... You only have so much space on that little foldable table in front of you. And think of the look of your neighbor seeing you unpack and trying to find space for all your little containers.
That is why I love rice paper rolls, nori rolls, cabbage rolls, cucumber rolls.... I am on a roll.
You can jam-pack everything in the rolls full and create flavor bombs!
ps: again, think about the other passengers, some foods have a strong smells... So please no fish sauce!
Go nuts
Make a ziplock bag with activated nuts and seeds!
Almonds.... hello plantbased protein!
It's so easy, and always comes in handy...
Even after landing!
To add some more flavor, you can roast your nuts and seeds in with various spices and herbs!
Think Tamari Sunflower Seeds or Gingerbread Spiced Pecans, Rosemary Walnuts,...
Get creative on board!
Think of what they have on board! And be create with it!
They always have warm water,...so think about the possibilities!
Bring some instant miso soups, ask them to add some water to some oatmeal, bring your green tea bags or matcha powder, maybe some extra superfood like instant reishi or chaga or acai?
Is it a liquid?
You can bring up to 100mill... So get some ginger shots, wheatgrass shots...
Think small and powerful!
Make sure you use containers or bottles that shows how many milliliters the container or bottle is! Use old marmalade jars or things like that! Don't remover the label!
When making a chia pudding, make it a thicker consistency and add even more fruits than usual.
Be lazy!
Not feeling all that prep work?
Just grab some take away from your favorite place before heading off and treat yourself to a delicious meal!
Had some of the most memorable dining experiences like this!
Think Shake Shack, Le Pain Quotidien sourdough tartines, .... anything goes!
Somehow knowing that you have this insane meal waiting for you, something no-one will get - makes it that more delicious ;-) !
And it makes your holiday just a little longer and the dreaded flight more pleasant.
